“If you are a transgender person in Sweden today looking to legally change your gender, in the 21st century you are still forced to undergo surgery that will render you permanently infertile and forever unable to have children. This barbaric practice of forced sterilizations has to stop!
The majority of the Swedish parliament is in favor of modifying this law - but up until now Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has let a small conservative party block this long awaited reform.
Let’s make sure the Prime Minister knows that the majority of Sweden, and Europe - wants to see Sweden on the right side of history - by eliminating this archaic practice.”
Please help out by signing this petition and then reblog, so we can get a stop to this stupid law!
Petition CLICK HERE!Purely out of my own ignorance, can people who undergo sex changes have children anyway?
I’m quoting Humon on dA cause she wrote something about that;
“Mind you, when you have your sex changed surgically you can’t have children anyway. The point here is that it’s an unnecessary extra surgery you have to go through if you want to change your sex and be acknowledged as said gender on paper after your sex change.” - HumonIt’s not only about that!
What the law also says that if you get sterilized and change gender, you are also not allowed to save your egs/sperm in a bank. They have to be destroyed to.
So if you want children even after your surgery and transition, you can’t have ones that are some how genetically attached to you, which you could have had if this law didn’t excist and you where allowed to save sperm/egs even if it is not YOU birthing the child. And also it is the principle of the simple thing that it is your human right to be able to choose for youself what you do with your body.
Really?! I didn’t know about that… I makes it ever worse! Dammit Sweden, I’m a bit ashamed of living here right now. >.<
ummm…. just going to be blunt here
yes the whole issue regarding conceiving children and being unable to store eggs/sperm is awful
but….
isn’t the point of your gender classification in government documents kind of important that it stays 100% true
I mean this in the sense that
say you have to go to the hospital, your records would need to be accurate and the same as what you biologically are, due to health issues that can be caused by administration certain treatments that have certain effects on different genders due to hormones, genes, ect.
I’m all for peoples rights to be acknowledged as what ever gender they want but, biologically speaking, they are a man or woman
that’s just a fact
you were born as something, and the government lists you as such
then again I’m not entirely educated on this issue so I may not be one to speak on it
just feel a little puzzled by some of the ideas behind this
